How did it feel to be a part of the most talked-about wedding of 2018?

Since I have known Isha for a long time now, it was a special wedding for me as it was hers. Though I was quite normal about it as I have seen her grow up.

For how long have you known Isha and the Ambani family?

Well, I think it has been more than 5 years now that I have known the Ambanis as I have been doing Isha’s makeup since then.

What was your initial reaction when you were being approached for Isha’s wedding makeup?

It was very special and I still thank them for trusting and having faith in me. There is a comfort zone that I share with the family so when I came to know, I mean when Bhabhi (Nita Ambani) said to me that “You are going to do Isha’s makeup,” I was like, “Wow!”. It felt so special that I was asked to a part of this wedding. It felt like a family affair.

Considering the fact that you knew that this was going to be a great opportunity for you as an artist, what all things did you take care of?

There was a foundation that was specially mixed for her with Armani and lot more other foundations. She wanted to look very young and fresh and because she doesn’t like a lot of makeup, we made sure that we’ll go light on her skin.

We focussed more the eyes and we gave her a winged liner and to give a bridal touch, we also used a little darker lip colour like Dead Rose for a stain-like tone. She was wearing her mom’s Panetar (a Gujarati bride’s saree) which she wore at her own wedding so to look more special and appealing, we used Bindis above the eyebrows. It looked very traditional.

She was very clear from the beginning that she wanted very less makeup and a fresh appearance but everything bridal so we planned it out for her accordingly.

Your talent and expertise are widely acclaimed. How it does feel to have reached here when you look back at the last ten years of your life?

I have worked with Mickey Sir for 5 years and after that, I began my with individual journey with 2 States with Alia and till Kapoor & Sons, I have covered all her movies. My first movie in the industry was Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and since then I have with a lot of celebrities. For me, it is a normal thing and I never made any hype out of it so nothing really changed for me.

When I was with Mickey Sir, I got the opportunity to work with all the celebrities you can think of. My last movie with him was Student Of The Year. So, yes you can say that I have seen it all. It’s a great feeling to reach here but I feel grounded by the fact that I have been doing this for quite some time now.

 Good times with Jacqueline Fernandez.

What is your idea of flawlessness and how do incorporate this element in your makeup style?

See I always say makeup is not to make your skin better. It is to even your skin tone. It is an easy skill to put makeup but to put the right colour which looks exactly like the skin tone, is the biggest challenge of them all.

What has been your most memorable project till date?

Initially, it was my first project that I bagged with Mickey Sir but now, it definitely has to be Isha’s wedding. I still remember how Mukesh Sir came to receive her before the ceremony. It was ‘the moment’ of my life. I can’t tell how happy I am that I was a part of that moment.

Talking about memories, it becomes equally important for us to talk about the challenges that you have faced as an artist.

I faced a lot of struggle when I was freelancing initially and then I got a chance to work with Alia, for The Student Of The Year. It was a huge task for me. Working with Mickey Sir and that too for a Dharma Productions’ movie was nothing less than a Herculean task. In fact, the wedding makeup of Alia from 2 States in the climax scene was a very big challenge but I am glad I made it through.

Well, just out of curiosity, how different it is doing makeup for men than it is doing for women?

I have worked with a lot of male celebrities like Arjun Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and everybody else. Honestly speaking, I don’t feel that there is much to do when it comes to men. I am so much used to do female makeup that it seems like a cakewalk. Though I enjoy doing makeup for men, I enjoy doing it for females more. I also do prosthetics but not many people know about it.

What is the current trend in makeup that our readers should know about and follow it up in their makeup routine?

Every trend changes according to the climate. But in India, not many people know about it. Right now, we are experiencing Winters so all the darker colours come out. It will be followed by Fall-Winter, Summer and then Spring-Summer. Spring-Summer is more about brighter colours, less makeup and a lot of shine. So in short, we must alter everything according to our personality if we are too keen to follow the trends.
